One of the things I love about living in Southwest Washington is how easy it is to get outside and enjoy the beautiful Pacific Northwest, and our local golf courses are no exception. From scenic public courses with mountain views to challenging championship layouts and private clubs, Vancouver and the surrounding area have some great options for golfers of every skill level. Whether you’re looking for a new favorite course or just an excuse to spend a sunny afternoon outside, I’ve rounded up a few of the best places to tee off in and around Vancouver.
1. Royal Oaks Country Club — Vancouver, WA (Private)
Royal Oaks is the premier private golf experience in Vancouver and one of the most highly regarded courses in Washington. Golf Digest currently lists it among its Best in State courses, ranking it seventh in Washington. The course is known for beautiful conditioning, mature landscaping and a traditional championship layout. It also has some serious golf history: Tiger Woods won the 1994 Pacific Northwest Golf Association Amateur Championship at Royal Oaks.
2. Camas Meadows Golf Club — Camas, WA (Public)
If you’re looking for one of the best public golf experiences in Southwest Washington, Camas Meadows should be near the top of the list. The course runs through forested wetlands near Lacamas Lake, creating a distinctly Pacific Northwest setting. The layout combines narrow, tree-lined fairways, meadows, wetlands and more than 50 bunkers. It has received numerous accolades, including a four-star Golf Digest rating and recognition as a top public course in the Northwest.
3. Tri-Mountain Golf Course — Ridgefield, WA (Public)
Tri-Mountain combines a challenging course with one of the prettier settings in Clark County. The course sits in a valley with views toward Mt. St. Helens, Mt. Adams and Mt. Hood, which is where its name comes from. The 6,600-yard course includes 11 lakes and 64 bunkers, so accuracy matters. It has a more open, rural feeling than Royal Oaks or Camas Meadows and offers a good balance between challenge and playability.
4. Lewis River Golf Course — Woodland, WA (Public)
Lewis River is a bit of a hidden gem north of Vancouver. The setting along the Lewis River makes this one of the prettier and more peaceful courses in the area. Rather than feeling suburban, it has a distinctly Northwest feel with mature trees, lush landscaping, river scenery and surrounding hills. The course plays roughly 6,400 yards and offers enough variety to keep experienced golfers interested without being overwhelming for recreational players.
5. Fairway Village Golf — Portland, OR (Public)
Fairway Village is a well-maintained 9-hole course tucked into the Fairway Village community in East Vancouver. It offers a relaxed, approachable round with a distinctly neighborhood feel, making it a great option for a quick game or casual afternoon on the course.
6. Club Green Meadows — Vancouver, WA (Private)
Club Green Meadows is different from most of the other options because golf is only part of what you get. It’s a large athletic and social club with golf, tennis, swimming, fitness and other activities. The 18-hole course is conveniently located right in Vancouver and has active men’s and women’s golf programs.
7. Pine Crest Golf Course — Vancouver, WA (Public)
Pine Crest is a small, family-run course in the Salmon Creek area that’s particularly good for short-game practice. It’s a casual, approachable course and considerably less intimidating than playing a full championship layout.
